A 2020 study found that psychological skills training and mindfulness led to performance improvements in athletes, and specifically helped in areas of emotional regulation and attention/focus.

THE WORK

BENEATH

THE WORK

A chart showing the zone of optimal performance mapped against pressure and demand, with areas labeled as bored, disengaged, unchallenged, under-activated at low pressure, and overwhelmed, distracted, burned out at high pressure.

Too little pressure and you are disengaged.

Too much and you are overwhelmed.

The space in the middle is your zone.

This program helps you find your zone and stay there longer.

My name is Neil Place, and I’m a Mental Performance Trainer.

Sport demands more than physical ability. It demands presence, emotional steadiness, the ability to refocus after a mistake, and the self-awareness to know when something is off and how to get back on track. That is what this work is about.

I work one-on-one with athletes to build the mental foundations that hold up under pressure: mindfulness, emotion regulation, values-based goal-setting, and focus. Together, we build your Zone of Optimal Performance, a personal, living map of what your best looks and feels like and how to return to it.

This is the foundation underneath everything else you train.
